For nearly 15 years I have enjoyed visiting and presenting to schools (from preschool to college) as well as libraries, museums, and teacher and library conferences.

I tailor my multimedia presentation to suit the age of the audience.  Ishow the creative stages of writing stories and developing artwork from unexpected moments of inspiration, brainstorming and random scribbles in my notebook. I explain the teamwork between myself and editors through research, sketching and revising, that helps bring a book to life.

If students wish to purchase copies of my books, please click here to download a pdf of my current book list and order form. I ask that any book orders be tallied 3-4 weeks before I visit. That gives me enough time to order the books from the publishers and sign all of them ahead of time. I always do a small drawing in every book that i sign, so I need the extra time to customize  each book.

I have a variety of presentations for different age groups, from preschool, and elementary groups, to highschool and college art majors, to author and illustrator professional groups and teacher and library conventions.

For schools and libraries, I begin with a powerpoint presentation where I introduce my most recent book. I always have new picture books for younger audiences and chapter books for middle grade students. I show the creative process and stages of writing and illustrating my stories as well as illustrating for other authors.

I end the presentation with a step by step art activity where the students draw along with me.

If the students have read a few of my books in class, it builds excitement and helps the students connect to my presentation.

I only need a standard video projector with a vga input. I will bring everything else that I need.

I also ask that students bring paper, pencils and a hard surface to draw on, like a book or clipboard. They can be passed out near the end of the presentation so the kids aren't distracted.
